Green Haighs

Environment. Of course, Haighs are user friendly to Cumbria’s wonderful green, fresh environment. Whilst much of Lakeland’s economy is underpinned by tourism. West Cumbria is different in many ways, depending on manufacturing and service industries. We are very proud of our role in this local economy. Apart from providing 70 valuable jobs at all levels, over 90% of the products we use are locally sourced.

flour is purchased from Carrs mills situated in the Victorian seaside resort of Silloth; fresh meat from our own farm, local farms and fatstock marts; and our vegetables from Eskdale Green in the south.

You won’t see wagons trundling hundreds of wasteful miles bringing deliveries to our shops.

Wrappings. Our commitment to green issues extends even to everyday bags and wrappings. These are kept to the absolute minimum, and are biodegradable. You won’t need a sharp knife or scissors to peel away the plastic from our renowned Cumberland Sausage. Fresh Air. We recycle excess heat from refrigerator gases for hot water. We make sure Cumbrian air remains fresh, blowing straight from the fells.
